About

Shakespeare is a feasibility stage, past-producing mine with the major permits in place for a 4,500 tonne per day mine, mill and tailings storage facility. Past production from the Shakespeare mine means that a significant amount is known about the metallurgy of the deposit and potential recoveries. Magna Mining also has an Impact Benefit Agreement in place with Sagamok Anishnawbek for the future development of the Shakespeare project.

History

The Shakespeare Mine is a past-producing nickel, copper, and platinum group metals (PGM) operation located in the renowned Sudbury Mining District. Originally explored in the mid-20th century, the deposit gained renewed attention in the early 2000s as demand for nickel and associated metals increased.

The mine was brought into production in 2010 as an open-pit operation, contributing to the region’s long-standing legacy of mining excellence. During its operating years, the site demonstrated the viability of near-surface nickel deposits outside of the traditional Sudbury Basin geology.

Today, the Shakespeare Mine remains an important part of the district’s mining history and continues to represent the evolving opportunities within the Greater Sudbury region.
